Well, my life has changed a bit!
Happy first Sunday of July - let me tell you about how my life has changed quite a bit!
👋 Hello
Happy 6 July - I hope you’ve been enjoying the sunny weather, Wimbledon, the Women’s Euros and whatever else you’ve been indulging in since you last read one of my newsletters.
To say my life has changed recently would be a small understatement. My partner and welcomed our first child!!
Little baby Everly came on 25 July at 6lbs 1oz and is perfectly healthy. In fact, I confirmed with the midwife that she was probably the cutest and best baby they’d seen in the history of the hospital, so that’s always a bit of an ego boost for the parents.
I won’t go into details about the birth, but I do just want to give props to my partner, who was simply amazing and I couldn’t be more proud of her!
As for reading and my blog, well, that’s been far less productive, but here we go…
👀 Bits to read and watch
Let’s begin with written content. So I’ve written two articles in the past month - yes two. I know, it’s not particularly productive at all, but it’s better than none OK?!
The first review is of Night Road by Kristin Hannah which is another absolute banger from my favourite writing author at the moment, so make sure to read that.
The next is then a review of Life After Life by Kate Atkinson which I wasn’t such a big fan of.
I have been a little more productive on the video front, though with a video on popular books I want to still read (as part of my May reading round-up which seems crazy to say but I suppose I just posted it after my last newsletter went out. Watch that here:
Then I posted a video on the give great fantasy books you may never have heard of but I recommend picking up. Watch that here:
Then I ranked every single book I’ve read so far this year:
And finally I answered some questions about the behind the scenes of my video recording:
📖 What I’ve been reading
As you can imagine, reading hasn’t been a priority for me since the baby and I was struggling to get into a rhythm before too as all I could think about was the impending arrival.
However, I obviously do have some reading updates for you.
I’ve essentially read three books since my last newsletter and have then gone on to pick up and put down a few different books as I try and find something easy and enjoyable to read.
So I finished Jurassic Park, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Art of Racing in the Rain since my last newsletter - all of which I really enjoyed and all of which you can find more detailed thoughts of mine over on my Instagram, Youtube or TikTok.
Then I started reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt but i’m in a mood right now were I’m about a quarter of the way through and still not interested so may DNF it. As well as this, I started A Ballad of Birdsongs and Snakes whilst I waited in the hospital and I also picked up The Killer Question by Janice Hallett a couple of weeks ago.
So it’s all a bit of a reading rollercoaster at the moment. I’m also aware I need to started The Ferryman by Justin Cronin as my July follower book pick!
