Tips for beginner readers | 02.06.2024
I've not had the most productive week as I've been away but I did post a YouTube video I'd like you to watch!
👋 Hello
Happy Sunday all! I’ve been away most of the week but I’ve still managed to get a few things done to talk to you about.
At the end of last week, I posted a YouTube video offering some tips to those of you just getting into reading or those who are getting back into reading. Watch that below:
As well as this, I spent yesterday to posting written reviews to every book I’ve read this year so far on my Goodreads, so make sure to go and give me a follow.
And then finally, I’ve just finished writing my review of The Locked Door by Freida McFadden which you can read below.
Oh, we haven’t discussed the weather. It’s been sh*t again. But it’s supposed to be nice today, so let me know if you’ve had a nice day when you read this (I write these Sunday mornings and they’re posted Sunday at 6pm)
✍️ What I’ve posted since my last newsletter
THE LOCKED DOOR BY FREIDA MCFADDEN BOOK REVIEW
The Locked Door didn’t shock me and impress me quite like The Housemaid did, but it fits in the perfect formula of what I was hoping for from a Freida McFadden book: an engaging, easy-to-read story with just enough twists and turns to keep me reading until the very end. The premise had me very intrigued and some people I spoke to noted that this was her best outside of The Housemaid books. I plan on continuing to read some more McFadden books and will come back in a few months to let you know which my favourites are!”
📖 What I’ve been reading this week
Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent
Strange Sally Diamond has been my main read over the past week. I picked it up just after I finished The Locked Door and I’m about halfway through so far and really impressed. There’s a lot yet to still be uncovered about the story, but it’s been really intriguing so far!
I’m sure I’ll get this finished over the coming week.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn
I went to Bletchley Park whilst I was away which, for those of you who don’t know, is where the Enigma Code was solved by Alan Turing’s creation of the Bombe machine which helped finish the Second World War.
Therefore, their gift shop was filled with books and when my partner’s mum said she’d read The Rose Code and it was brilliant, I knew I had to pick it up and start it straight away. I’m only about 70 pages in so far but I’m really enjoying the characters and the direct writing style Quinn has.
I see she has plenty of other really highly-rated historical fiction too which means if I enjoy this, I’ll definitely be picking up more of hers.
📚 Book deal - buy 3, get one free (4 books for about £15!)
World of Books (WoB) is one of my favourite places to buy books. Not only are they priced incredibly well, but if you’re looking to pick up a whole bunch of books they nearly always have a banging deal on to save yourself some money!
Their “Buy 3, get 1 free” deal means you can get four books for about £15 if you shop around. And it’s not like they’re unheard of books either - they’re some very popular books!
I’ve gone through and picked out some bangers which are all under £5 and all marked as “very good” condition:
