I've just reviewed one of the greatest books I've ever read | 26.05.2024
This isn't clickbait. I reviewed The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne this week and it's one of the best books I've ever read!
👋 Hello
Well, after some optimism last week that we were hitting some nicer weather, it’s been a load of sh*t this past week and is looking to continue to be so over the coming week.
This isn’t particularly nice considering I’m off on a staycation for the week! This does mean I may not be as active on social media or even possibly do a newsletter next week - though we’re likely going to be home by Friday so there could well be one.
Anyway, I hope you’re all reading banging books at the moment. I’m reading The Locked Door by Fredia McFadden and still trudging on with The Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry which still just seems like a generic cowboy book to me and I’m about halfway through now, so we’ll see if that improves at all!
As always, if you want to follow me on any social media channels including X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, BlueSky etc etc. Just search “Luke’s Blog” and you’re sure to find me!
✍️ What I’ve posted since my last newsletter
THE HEART’S INVISIBLE FURIES BY JOHN BOYNE BOOK REVIEW
“I don’t give books a 5/5 rating because I feel no book is perfect. However, The Heart’s Invisible Furies would be the first in line if I ever did. This book will beat you up, pick you up again, dust you off and then make you look back at everything you’ve read and realise you’ve read a masterpiece. A combination of incredible writing, beautiful characters and almost perfect storytelling make The Heart’s Invisible Furies one of the greatest books I’ve ever, and I can tell you now, will likely ever read in my life. This will now be a book I tell everybody is one of my favourite books I’ve ever read.”
THE STRANGER IN HER HOUSE BY JOHN MARRS BOOK REVIEW
“The first few chapters of Iron Widow were fantastic and excited the nerd inside me with massive transforming robots. However, I wasn’t still expecting to be as interested in the characters and the story by the very end. Not only did Iron Widow scratch that nerdy itch inside me but it’s made me genuinely interested to read the sequel. There are no cliche “romantasy” tropes here, just fast-paced action with a badass main character and a plot that has just enough depth and backstory that I’m excited to see where Zhao is taking this next later this year!”
📖 What I’ve been reading this week
The Locked Door by Freida McFadden
This is my current “easy read”. The Locked Door is my third Freida McFadden book and is currently keeping my really hooked. They’re really easy books to read. McFadden has a way of writing that makes you keep flipping the pages really easy.
The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret were both brilliant books that ended up really impressing me. We’ll see if The Locked Door is as good as these two previous books.
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry
I’m still slowly and steadily getting through Lonesome Dove. I pick up the audiobook every now and then when I fancy it and I’m still enjoying it. However, I’m yet to reach the moment where I feel like it could be one of the best books I’ve ever read like others have said it is for them.
