I really should be writing | 28.04.2024
A fairly productive week has seen me post two book reviews,
👋 Hello
Happy Sunday all, how are we all? The one thing I can think to write about is simply how I haven’t done enough writing this week.
As you’ll know from my previous newsletters, some weeks I have really busy weeks and manage to get out three or four articles - then other weeks I have written barely anything or nothing.
This week has definitely been the latter as I’ve just written up a review of a book I finished almost two weeks ago in Weyward by Emilia Heart. I have another two books finished that I need to review and I’ll likely be finishing another in the next couple of days too, so I best get my writing boots on!
This week, I did post a YouTube video on the top five best thrillers I’ve ever read too!
Other than this, as usual, you can keep scrolling for the usual selection of my most recent articles, my current read and some great book deals too!
✍️ What I’ve posted since my last newsletter
WEYWARD BY EMILIA HART BOOK REVIEW
“Putting three stories into about 400 pages will always be a struggle but Emilia Hart does do just enough of a job rounding them off the make them interesting enough. However, I was hoping for a lot more from Weyward. I was hoping for slightly more interesting stories, maybe some clever intertwining or plot twists and some better-defined characters. However, these elements all left me slightly underwhelmed and I got the end wishing the book was a couple of hundred pages longer so more depth could have been added.”
📖 What I’ve been reading this week
None of this is True by Lisa Jewell
I read Lie With Me in the week because Lisa Jewell said it was her favourite thriller of all time. So now I’m reading None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell because Claire Douglas said it was one of her favourites. I’m hoping to combine the reading of these both into one video and give you my thoughts.
I’m about a third of the way through so far and it’s got me very intrigued. It’s about a woman who is being interviewed as part of a podcast on her odd relationship with her now husband who is almost 30 years older than she is. It’s all very eery and it feels like something else is going on.
Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant
I finished Lie With Me this week. This is one of the reviews I need to write up over the coming days. It was recommended to me by Lisa Jewell and after a very slow start where I really had no clue where it was going, the finale rounded it all off very nicely.
The whole book seems quite eery and odd and a bit jumbled as to where it’s going but I think Sabine Durrant does just enough of a good job with the ending to make it feel like you weren’t wasting your time by sticking with it.
📚 Book deal - 2 brand new paperbacks for £9
Not only does Amazon do some amazing deals when it comes to the ebook version of books but their paperback offers are often worth checking out too.
I remember a while ago they used to do 2 books for £7, but I guess the affects if inflation has hit and now it’s 2 for £9. However, this is still a great deal, often saving you a fair amount from buying in a physical shop.
As always then, I’ve listed some of the better books I could find in this deal below along with a link to check out the rest of the deal
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin (£5)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (£5)
