A fantastic book you may not have heard of! | 31.03.2024
Have you heard of Sea State by J.M. Simpson? I finished it this week and it was absolutely fantastic!
👋 Hello
Happy Sunday all - I hope you’re all chin-deep in some chocolate right now and enjoying the extra time off work. It’s the best feeling feeling like you’re a day behind and then realising it’s a Sunday but that you’ve still got another day off! Love it.
Anyway - this week, I’ve been a little quieter all over social media s work has been busier and then obviously with this long weekend I like to focus on relaxing which, for me, doesn’t always mean reading and blogging and putting up social posts.
What are your plans for the coming week?
✍️ What I’ve posted this (past two) week(s)
SEA STATE BY J.M. SIMPSON BOOK REVIEW
“Sea State is a brilliantly brave first book from J.M. Simpson. Not only is she not afraid to talk about some dark topics but she’s written some fantastic characters who you genuinely care for. There are some debut nerves in here with the plot pacing but this is counteracted with some great storytelling techniques and a story that builds to a crescendo that will have you really engrossed in the final third of the books. I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series and after a quick chat with Simpson, it seems I’m yet to meet the best character!”
📖 What I’ve been reading this week
High Rise by Vanessa Lee
High Rise is a book I was sent quite some time ago and after a little nudge from the publisher, I’ve decided to pick it up! It’s a book set in the future that focuses on the effects climate change has had on the world with a lot of the conversation I’ve already already focusing on this as the main topic.
It’ll be interesting to see where else this goes.
Sea State by J.M. Simpson
I finished Sea State this week and was very impressed. It has some brilliant characters and a really mature story that I was very impressed by.

In Memoriam by Alice Winn
In Memoriam is a book that when I posted it on social as my next potential read received so much praise and so many comments that I knew I had to pick it up immediately.
I’m about 50 pages into it so far and it’s absolutely fantastic and I knew I’m going to love it. The characters are already fantastic and I’m already in love with their relationship so I know I’m going to love them too.
