A couple of book reviews and a round-up | 03.03.2024
I've got a couple of book reviews and a round-up article for you all this week!
👋 Hello
Welcome back you bookish geeks. This week I reached over 8,000 followers on Twitter which is madness. My next big goal is going to be 10,000 followers of course and then the following step will be world domination - here I come Elon!
With this, reaching over 1,000 on TikTok and having nearly 150 subscribers on YouTube, I’m going to be doing a giveaway soon! I’ll have a look next time I’m out and about and see if there are some goodies including some books. I’ll make sure to include some books as well! If you’ve got any ideas of what else I could give away, I’d be more than happy to have you email me or DM me on socials!
✍️ What I’ve posted this week
MY 5 MOST-READ ARTICLES IN FEBRUARY 2024
“It’s great to see some really old articles on this list this month. You know Google is the source for most of your reviews when your most-read article of the month was published in September 2012. Also, you can see how my cover design has changed – this was before I was comfortable putting my face on the interwebs.
Also, as I mentioned, being a book blogger means that all of my articles are bookish and four of these are book reviews. It’s good to know that deciding to focus on book reviews was the right idea.”
SLOW HORSES BY MICK HERRON BOOK REVIEW
“Slow Horses is a big name in the crime genre at the moment and so I felt I had to read it. It started off a little slow but once I realised there was a comedic element and gre accustomed to Mick Herron’s writing style, I started to really enjoy it. The story wasn’t too deep and therefore easy to follow but there were some interesting twists and some questions left unanswered that the next book will hopefully answer. I’ve not read a vast amount of crime books but I think I’ll definitely be picking up the sequel to Slow Horses.”
WHEN YOUR FAMILY SAYS NO BY LAYA MARTIN BOOK REVIEW
“When Your Family Says No is a fascinating look into the orthodox Jewish community and how it affected one woman’s life and how when she grew older and had to leave her family, it really shone a spotlight on the religion and its limitations. Laya is an incredibly brave person for what she did and reading about her strict upbringing, her limitations as a woman in the religion and then the reaction from her family and friends of the religion when she chose to leave is a real eye opener and a genuinely insightful look into a world completely different from so many of those of us reading it.”
📖 What I’ve been reading this week
Djinn’s Apple by Djamila Morani
As part of a Blog Tour I was kindly sent a copy of The Djinn’s Apple by Djamila Morani. It’s about a young girl whose house is ransacked and her family murdered and sos he sets out to revenge her family.
I’m about halfway through so far and my post is due up on 7th. It’s been fine so far, nothing extraordinary and honestly other than the initial first couple of chapters, nothing has happened so let’s hope the second half picks up a lot.
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
This was a book I picked up from the charity shop about a month ago and then when the other day I finished The City We Became I decided to pick this up and I’ve been really enjoying it so far.
I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I am and I didn’t think it was going to have as much humour as it does, so that’s a pleasant surprise.
